Eco-augmentation: anticipating scientific breakthroughs
Can we anticipate new scientific disruptions in the area of eco-augmentation, and what are their implications for the future?
This was the overarching question of a three day workshop organized by the Geneva Science and Diplomacy Anticipator (GESDA) in Villars, Switzerland March 25-27. The conference focused on eco-augmentation using three interrelated themes: ‘Reading and writing ecosystems’, ‘Transitioning ecosystems’, and ‘Hacking co-evolution’. Peter attended to chair the session on hacking coevolution and presented recent work on Anthropocene traps and coevolutionary governance.
The workshop highlighted important tensions between our technological capabilities and the risk of their unintended consequences that will be important to address through regulatory governance.
